Tracking Cell Phone Locations

If you are concerned about your children's whereabouts, or if you suspect a cheating spouse, then maybe you should consider tracking cell phone location. It is a great tool to find out if people are telling you the truth about where they are.

The earliest and most basic way of tracking cell phone location was to analyze the signal of the cell phone. The signal can be tracked by seeing which direction your phone was in relation to the nearest cell phone towers. You can also see the direction the signal is moving in and how quickly you move between each tower.

There is one drawback to this method, because it does not pinpoint the exact location. This is often a rough location of around 100-300 square meters. You can get the general idea of where someone is with this method usually, and definitely see if someone is lying about where they are.

The most accurate way of tracking cell phone location is through the use of GPS. If a phone has a GPS tracking device it can be pinpointed at any time. The one problem is that if the person you want to be tracked just turns off their GPS then you cannot find them. Also terrain can influence GPS tracking, because if the owner of the cell phone goes in a tunnel, or behind some high mountains or buildings, then it can be hard to pick up the signal.

The newest technology for tracking cell phone location is through WPS, or the Wi-Fi positioning system. This technology uses various wireless networks signals for tracking. In cities there are often hundreds of Wi-Fi hot spots that overlap all over the place creating a kind of grid. Users can be pinpointed when they use their phones by looking at the nearest few wireless hot spots. If you live in a very rural community this method may give you a problem.
